Maternal obesity increases the death rate of infants

Maternal obesity may increase the mortality rate of babies, the test results reveal nearly 2 million births in Sweden between 1992 and 2010 compared to their survival and BMI of their mothers, reports “El Mundo” referring to the study published in the British Medical Journal.

“Maternal overweight and obesity are associated with increased risk of infant mortality due to the increased risk during birth and a high prevalence of premature births,” said the study authors, conducted by the Karolinska University Hospital (Sweden) and the University of Michigan School of Public Health (USA).
